TSP Programme on “Capacity Building of Tribal Farmers for Livelihood Improvement” organized in North Tripura

One day capacity building program cum distribution of critical inputs like seeds, chicks and minor farm machineries to tribal farmers was organized in adopted Madhuvan ADC village 6th July, 2019 under TSP-ICAR project on “Capacity Building of Farmers in Primary Sectors by Adopting Integrated Watershed Approach”. The program is implemented by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Tripura Centre in collaboration with KVK, Panisagar, North Tripura with the objectives to improve livelihood and income of tribal farmers through introduction of improved farming practices in a participatory approach.  A total of 75 farmers along with youth leaders from locality and officials of KVK, Panisagar attended the programme. Dr. Anup Das, Principal Scientist (Agronomy) and Dr. Vinay Singh, Scientist (Poultry Science) from ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Tripura Centre, Lembucherra interacted with the farmers on various aspects of scientific farming. Improved rice cultivation practices like SRI/ICM along with short and high yielding rice varieties were advocated to achieve high yield and income. Dr. Anup Das asked farmers to diversify their farming practices and utilize rice fallow lands for cultivation of oilseeds, pulses, maize and vegetables to enhance income and employment. Dr. Vinay Singh interacted with the farmers on scientific poultry farming and gave a brief account on proper nutrition and vaccination schedule for maximum income. Mr. Ranadhir Sharma, SMS, KVK, Panisagar asked farmers to implement the project in true spirit and follow the scientific package suggested by the experts for maximum benefit. Women participated in good number and expressed their views for improving their livelihood. Mr. Lamligul Halam (Coordinator of program in village) assured all possible cooperation from the village for success of the program. Representatives of farmers from SHGs, NGOs and youths club also interacted with the farmers and experts on the occasion and requested ICAR to extend the program in other nearby areas. Dr. Anup Das, Vinay Singh, Randhir Sharma and farmers representatives together distributed various inputs like chicks of dual purpose poultry (350 numbers), poultry feeds (5 kg to each farmers as starter feed), vegetables seeds of cowpea, okra, lablab bean, cucumber, etc (about 20 kg),  high yielding rice variety (Gomati), 5 quintals, 1.5 Hp electric pump (2 numbers along with accessories), power operated and manual sprayer (2 numbers) and rose can (10 numbers) among the participating farmers. It was suggested to establish a Custom Hiring centre for the benefit of the villagers. One oil excretion unit has been also established under the Project in the village.
